25 Oct : 10:00 - WishboneHey maximo!
Spearfishing at night is forbidden almost everywhere in Europe. For a good reason too. Most of the fish are inactive at night which makes their hunting quite easy.
19 Oct : 10:58 - maximocan i ask? somebody here,about ,night spearfishing can i have some tecniques...thanks

11 Jul : 08:34 - WishboneHey guys!
Chigga, nice average result especially for a beginner. I don't know what are you aiming with the target 5 mins, but for recreational freediving and spearfishing you actually don't need such bottom time.
As a matter of fact 5 mins dynamic apnea is quite an impossible target.
10 Jul : 22:33 - Chiggai'm a beginner have been practising for some weeks now my time is 1 1/2 min.avg my hope is to reach 5. so i need your guidance wazzers
10 Jul : 22:30 - Chiggawats up wazzers

24 May : 19:21 - VovHi, Osiris, welcome aboard the Bulgarian spearfishing site! I liked your site very much but.. can understand only part of it.

14 Jan : 13:45 - WishboneHey dimitris, I have stumbled upon Natalia Molchanova's training programs before. It's really really demanding... I'd try to look for it again though - hope it's not in Russian...
11 Jan : 21:45 - dimitrisIs there any information about training programs for the pool?
20 Nov : 11:04 - VovAnd welcome to wokao123!
01 Nov : 10:10 - WishboneWarmest welcome to our newest member Gletwin from the SA national spearfishing team!
29 Oct : 20:33 - WishboneMaaan! Besides the fact that I envy you big time, I guess the further south you go the colder it would get.
I'd suggest AT LEAST a 3mm. suit in ANY case. As for the speargun - if you don't expect open wate, then a reliable 100-110 cm gun will be just fine.. I'd suggest a sturdy aluminum railgun - less maintenance and can take more beating. A 6.5 shaft is a good average choice. A reel is a must.
Please make sure you get familiar with the local spearfishing laws and also about any dangerous marine life, including non edible species (poisonous or ciguatera)
Cheers and keep us posted!
29 Oct : 20:08 - SandHi Sol and welcome to spearfish.org i dont know how much is the sea temperature there but from this depends what gear you should use - most important things are mask, fins, speargun - then wetsuit, gloves, socks
and of course the belt which depends on your wetsuit, if you are not experienced try to not go alone for spearfishing
also read the SPEARFISHING section on the right of the site and you will have a very detailed info about spearfishing
it will take you half hour maximum
i cant answer to your question exactly because i am very addicted to spearfishing and if i go to mexico
i will do only spearfishing and nothing else
29 Oct : 19:56 - solhi- am new to this site, also to typing. am leaving in 2 mons. for an extended tripdown the coasts from mexico to argentina.Have done some spearfishing when i lived in costa rica, but really am a beginner.I intend to take two spearguns and a limited amount of gear as i will be backpacking, hitching and riding horses. If you guys were doing this, what gear would you take to cover your needs with the minnimum amount of weight?I don't anticipate any open water probably more rock and reef. Also was considering documenting our trip.Would appreciate any helpfull comments,Thanks-Sol
07 Oct : 14:31 - WishboneHey Eco! Which part of Turkey would you recommend for spearfishing at this time of year!?

Joseba Querejeta is the new World Spearfishing Champion
The Spaniard Joseba Querejeta took the title World Spearfishng Champion! The ХХVІ CMAS World Spearfishing Championship took place in two competition days in Venezuela - on the Island of Margarita. The event was officially launched on 20th of October with 80 registered participants from Australia, Brazil, Columbia, Croatia, Chile, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Tahiti, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela. As expected Bulgaria did not participate at the Worlds, despite the fact the country earned a participation quota.
The Spaniards dominated completely during the first competition day on the Los Frailes archipelago - Joseba Querejeta on the top position, (30,010 p.), Juan Fuentes on 2nd place (29,230 p.) and Pedro Carbonell on third (25,525p). Fourth was the Greek deep hunting master Ioannis Sideris with 22,085 p. Surprisingly left behind are the Chileans and in the standings by nation Spain is on the first place, followed by Croatia and Italy on third.
During competition day 2 Joseba Querejeta retained his leadership and is now the new World Spearfishing Champion (181,705 p.)! Ioannis Sideris of Greece is second (166,667 p.) and on third - the great Pedro Carbonell (154,729 p.) who announced the end of his competitive career. Much interesting is the fact that the Southafrican Jaco Blignaut got disqualified during the first competition day for carrying catch on the belt. Otherwise Jaco would have taken the Sideris second place on the podium - only with his result from the 2nd day the Southafrican got the 14th place!
The 2004 World Champion Stefano Bellani remained at the disappointing seventeenth position. The 2006 champion - the Chilean Saez - did not participate in the event.

Sad statistics from France
The French Ministry of the Sea published a statistical report for the accidents related to practicing of underwater sports. The reports counts all accidents, including SCUBA diving, freediving and spearfishing and clearly shows that the number of tragedies is rising every year. The total number of deaths and missing in the sea in 2007 is 32, which is almost double than the 2006 figures - 20.Here are the sad results by underwater activity:
SCUBA Diving:
- 148 rescue operations for 178 affected divers (154 in 2006)
- 8 general inspections
- 3 found after search
- 150 rescued (119 in 2006)
- 13 deaths
- 4 declared missing
Total: 17 dead and 4 missing scuba divers in 2007 (10 in 2006)
Spearfishing and freediving
- 42 rescue operations for 42 affected divers (57 in 2006)
- 12 general inspections
- 10 found after search
- 5 rescued
- 11 deaths
- 4 declared missing
Total: 15 dead and 4 missing in 2007 (10 in 2006)
The report also provides a detailed analysis of the reasons as well as a complete list the accidents. You can download it HERE. The the provided statistical data speaks for itself... It shows the ever increasing significance of the safety-oriented diving practices!
FFESSM abandoned spearfishing for good
The French top diving magazine "Apnea" announced that the General Assembly of the French National Federation for Underwater Studies and Sports (FFESSM), which took place on 11 and 12 of April 11 и 12, 2008 has definitely voted for the Federation to discontinue conducting spearfishing competitions. The decision was taken with a minimal 56% vote, which shows that the division of the opinions within the organization regarding this issue is still a fact. The decision was taken despite the efforts and the protests of the FFESSM Spearfishing Committee. In its annual report, the Committee underlines that without any external pressure it has already imposed a number of restrictions for minimum size and per species limit, etc. All of the competition catch was provided for studies and charity. The annual report shows that the proposal of the Executive Bureau of the Federation for abandoning the competitions (about which Spearfish! has already informed you), was taken without any consultations with the Spearfishing Committee. The decision was subject to a vote by the General Assembly, and is already a fact.
Despite all that, the news may turn out to be good, as long as it put an end to the separation of the spearos in France. Most of them, including the big names in the sport, have left the FFESSM years ago and formed a new federation - FNPSA. The new federation undertakes active competition and educational activities, but since it is not a member of CMAS the separation resulted in poor results for the French National Team, formed by FFESSM. We could only guess whether the exit of the FFESSM from spearfishing would allow the new FNPSA to replace it in CMAS in regards to spearfishing. And whether the FNPSA has any desire at all to do that.
Nevertheless, the French National Championship, which was planned to take place in June in Ciotat and Marseille, is still part of the FFESSM calendar.
